For many years, our credit union has wanted to connect with our members on a deeper level. Utilizing the latest tablet technology and partnering with our core system processor, we were able to develop a mobile solution where we bring the full services of Los Alamos Credit Union to our members. That’s right—we come to you! In August 2017 we began weekly on-site visits to schools that are geographically isolated, offering everything from cash withdrawals, loan applications and financial counseling. Building on that success, we expanded to other school sites to meet our members on their turf. We took lessons from the pioneers of our cooperative movement by meeting with members, listening to their needs and offering financial solutions to improve their lives.
In a time when handheld devices rule and our online social connections are vast, our real life relationships have suffered. However, we believe there is still great value in face-to-face interactions and people turn to those they trust in times of need. We ask how many connections were made after each school visit, not how many transactions were performed. Showing up week after week at the various school sites is our way of showing our membership that we care about their well being, that we value technology, and that we are available to support them when the time comes.
